About the farm – Viticulture

Rosa Glen Farm is located south east of Margaret River. Surrounded by remnant old forests of Jarrah, Karri and Marri trees, the 33 Ha property sits close to the Upper Chapman Brook, which runs south to the Blackwood River.

Rosa Glen was originally cleared for Timber and Agriculture in the 1930’s as part of a Group Settlement Scheme. Around Rosa Glen Farm there are examples of this history, rusting old rail lines originally used to haul jarrah sleepers out of the forest using bullocks remain near the property’s creek line and large nails used to slip tree trunks often show up when digging around the vineyard.

In 1978, the first planting of vines was made on the property. Initially, a small 1.4Ha block of Cabernet Sauvignon on a mixture of gravelly duplex and grey sandy loams soils was planted. In the 1990’s a further 6 Ha of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon were planted.

The cooler climate south of Margaret River lends itself to white wine production, the Rosa Glen Farm Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are well known to local winemakers as excellent expressions of the local terroir and climate, with the classic aromatic and citrus notes these varieties are known for.

In late 2023, 0.7 Ha of Cabernet Sauvignon was grafted to Gamay, beginning the start of new chapter at Rosa Glen Farm.
